Gold hunting, beach hunting, relic hunting, analogue only machines and every current brand of detector.
Problem is most have some one, or a group who have an axe to grind. At least on here no one will try to push you to spend money on something you don't need or is unsuitable. Beware anyone who says 'I've tried every machine on the market and brand X is the best'. This usually means they have tried the top three or four brands and found one suited them best, on their ground. |

And if you aint got a minelab SE your not worth talking to on the rest.
I have seen the phrase "if you buy for peanuts - you get for monkeys" on just about every one iv'e visited, (no names mentioned as to the poster )talk about look up to head in the sand ostriches.
This forum should be renamed "Unbiased Freindly Helpfull uk metel detecting".
People seem to forget they were new to the hobby(like me) once upon a time, and all help it gratefully accepted. What seems to be a daft question for some is quite puzzling if you don't know the answer. Here you will get different views/answers without smirks or rolling eyes
Thanks to the knowlegable people on here the learning curve has been straitened out somewhat and the pocket has a bit more dosh in it than it probably would have if it were not for them, hopefully in a few years time i can do the same for a newbee
THANKS TO ALL you know who you are |

My thoughts exactly. I also occasionally post on another forum, but this one is just as good if not better. There seems to be no 'snobbery' as regards machines or length of time in the hobby at all here which is great. Keep up the good work guys |

Hi Sam,
I think that you may be better to stick with this forum mate
But, you can visit an American site http://metaldetectingforum.com/index.php It's OK, not many Brits on there, but a heck of a lot of info about the general hobby. Might be of use.

Only trouble with your suggestion bluefish is that it runs at about 50% misinformation on that forum for our needs.
Was a very good forum but went downhill. Doug Groves recently got banned for pointing out that the main U.K. poster lives in fairy land. The second most prolific poster left some months back when it was found that many of his finds were made on E-Bay.
Finds Treasure Forums...http://www.findmall.com
cover most aspects of detecting and have a specific forum for most machines but you have to bear in mind that many over there are fanatically brand loyal, which means they won't accept that their favorite manufacturer might have produced a lemon.
The main problem U.S., if you ignore the gold and relic hunters who really work for their finds, is that the majority want a meter to tell them what to dig as they don't want to dig any rubbish. We really only need ferrous/non ferrous.
Their 'best' machines have a wide range of discrimination at the top end, foil to ringpull, whilst we need the width down the ferrous end.
