I've the 5 and a 3 and I must say I'm a bit challenged as what to say.
Don't worry about repairs, UK readers, as Troy will do a repair, recalibrate, reseal and post the machine back to you for $125.
Depth wise I've had great depth and very poor for no good reason. On the same type of sites the XP lower frequency models have not been that far behind the good depth but far better on the poor performing ground.
You do need to have at least the small 7" as well as the stock web coil. It can be cheaper to import a new coil from the States than buy second hand here.
On ground that suits your up with the Tejon with a better average response throughout the conductivity range. But the discrimination range is to tight down the lower range. You need to be just right. A fraction of a turn more and depth drops right off.
Discrimination involves quite a bit of swapping to all metal to check the target width.
Very well made, very light, good battery life off one PP3.
Reliability seems good but the Troy forum does not provide a clue to this as any question re problems disappears in a flash. |

| Brian, The problem I encountered in the states with the 5 was in hi mineralized ground it would chatter and also iron would mask out a good target. I was very disapointed with the 5 I had. Bill |
