Bit weird that several Minelab owners ordered these coils immediately they came out but have posted nothing re the performance (except for John Moore and he didn't like the one he tried).
Perhaps there will be a few more posts in the next week or two.

Have had my SEF 15x12 about two weeks now.. absolutely fantastic. One of our done to death sites which we have not been to for a couple of years has started producing more finds. The combination of the Explorer and the SEF is a killer !! my tectin buddys, two of them use different machines are seriously considering purchasing an Explorer and SEF coil.

The 15x12 looks quite big but I manage to use it all day with no problem, due to its nice balance, it is more stable than the stock, it is deeper and more sensitive, and makes the Explorer run more stable. I used it on a recently ploughed rolled and seeded site and it wiped the floor with the other machines, they would not pick up the signals that I was, as we tried them in turn, the finds used to demonstrate this were nothing of great interest, but all small non ferrous bits. If you have the means, then get one and go over you old sites.. they will appear virginal again..

I have the SE, but it works well with the XS and EXII also...

Who's stocking them arthur ! I heard they were getting a bit like hens teeth, When I got mine from Detecnicks, it was the last one in stock, and they did not know when the next batch were coming in ! Might be useful to let others know where they can get them, I paid £135 for mine with MLO discount. Good luck with it, I am sure you will be pleased !! Remember, to keep it low and slow.

Joan Allen have them in stock. I paid full price (£149) but then again I did not ask for discount as I had read another post that said J.A wouldnt give him discount for MLO membership. I am just happy they are in stock as I too had heard they are hard to find. Can't wait to try it & will give feedback once I'm used to it.

Pleased to see that you have purchased the SEF, John. I think devonsearchers report was probably the decider for both of us. Will be clockwatching at work on Monday waiting to get home & have a go around my garden!!

My SEF coil arrived today along with a new lower stem. Had it on the detector in a couple of minutes. Initially it looks a bit of a monster (15" x 12") but the eye soon gets used to it. It is heavier than I am used to & I must admit that waving it around the garden on my test coins soon made my back & arm ache. However I do feel that with the stem set at the right length & under normal field conditions it would be perfectly usable. Its just a matter of getting used to it.
It found my test coins (6d at 6" & 5ps at various depths) with ease. I have an old 1d buried at 11" which the stock coil identifies as iron (meter top left). The SEF coil gave a good reading on this & correct meter reading! Believe it or not sensitivity was set at 10 & it was in auto! I could run sensitivity up to about 23 in manual but gardens are not well suited to this level.
Overall I am impressed. It is well made & offers excellent sensitivity & ground coverage. Weight is the only downside but Im sure that with my bungee harness it will be fine. I will post further impressions after next Sundays detecting.
