|
|
| Hi all. Have got a problem with a s/h Sov. Elite. I get a loud initial tone from the Vol. pot when turning it on and can hear/adjust the threshold tone but the coil doesn't register any test metals (strangely seems like the threshold tone changes when the coil is next to large metal objects) - was hoping someone could say if this sounds like a new coil needed or possibly something else. Any suggestions at all would be much appreciated. Cheers. |

| Sounds like a coil problem or a dodgy battery? |

"Sounds like a coil problem or a dodgy battery?"
Thanks. There seems to be some juice getting through from the batteries (to the control box at least) as can turn the threshold tone up pretty loud. Does that suggest more likely the coil/connection? Have 'jiggled' connection around but it just ain't happenin' - don't have a spare coil to test unfortunately. |

| The same kind of thing happened to me last year with my excalibur, I am in the water and my machine gives out a continuous loud tone like the battery was going flat, I put my spare battery pod on and it still gave out the loud tone, I washed off the machine at home and noticed the bottom of my coil had a split half way around the edge, I always use a coil cover and the machine was less than a year old so I sent it off to Minelab in Vegas and they put a new Tornado coil on instead of the BBS coil , problem solved. I did the same as you waving coins underneath the cracked coil and they did not register at all. |

| Before paying out any money I would check the state of the pins and the brass tags they push into for any sign of corrosion. |

| Thanks for the tip, Brian. I checked the pins and also brass surrounds on the coil plug receptors but no obvious corrosion. I've since managed to get the coil to occasionally spring to life again for a few seconds, sometimes minutes so I thought maybe a loose contact re-connecting. Guess the only way is to try (or buy) another one - another coil would be good to have whether it fixes it or not. Will maybe drop a line on the Wanted section. |

| I had a simular problem with my musketer it was a wire broken near the d plug (coil to control box lead) try wiggling the lead and see if it works intermitantly. |

| Thanks Guildy. Yes, I feel that the problem is with the coil. I'm on the look out for another one. Will post the outcome on here. |

This may sound stupid but have you got the discrimination turned up full.

| Worth checking Ziggie but with minimum disc or AM it's still the same - it keeps 'cutting in' sporadically which to me rules out a settings problem. Thanks for the suggestion. |
