Does anyone out there in experienced detectorland have any advice they could offer in regards to approaching land owners to secure search permission. I have seen a few permission letter 'templates' on the internet, but am not keen them or indeed on writing to the landowners, nor am i keen on knocking on their doors ! I would like to know methods employed by other detectorists. I did try looking up my local farmers in the yellow pages but i only got through to 1, and he was very negative.
Any ideas i would appreciate
many thanks. |

The way i get promission is by searching internet for Farms ,hitchin and it brings up all the local farms then i print off some ageement forms, use 2 forms per farm 1 for farm owner and 1 for me
i also have a few buisness cards with my lience number and club and web site just for farmers who say they will think about it
I always vist the farm as found works better than calling them on phone as your face to face
When i`m at farm i just tell them what club i`m in and other farms ect that allow me to search there land then show them my Membership card and insurance as that normally swings it
when they agree i just get them to sign form and give them a copy
Another tip is always mention you will remove all old iron in there fields as they know the damage a broken plough bit can do to a combine |

well the best way is to knock on the door.. letters are easily t hrown away and phone calls can be cot short all too easily..
the personal approach is by far the best although try not to go when its lunch time or tea time as the last thing you want is to interup t some hard workin farmer havin his bait..
just have a smile and a friendly approach and give him ur speel.. dont go cap in hand though as this can be a bad approach |

[quote="yorkie"]Does anyone out there in experienced detectorland have any advice they could offer in regards to approaching land owners to secure search permission. hi first i would do some home work research,in different areas then spend about half a day riding round asking for permission knocking at the door seeing the farmer face to face which i think is more important than sending letters {sending letters is far to easy to knock you back ?in my opinion } i have found another good way of getting land permission which i think really works well & have much successes with,?is to approach the farmer in the field why he is doing is ploughing & seeding ,??sounds crazy i know?? then ask can you go on is land ,you know what hes going to say {NO NOT NOW LAD IM JUST ABOUT TO SEED}then i would say would it be ok to go on when you have harvested your crop then ,BINGO { i have had more permission access this way, its just one on one which i think makes a difference ??? if you have the nerve to stop that big old john deer give it a go |
