I see someone has parted with over £120 for a non working P.I. machine (Auto-Pulse) off E-Bay.
Best advice is to avoid any of the older pulse machines on several counts.
(1) Most cannot be repaired...even Eric Foster who is still in business cannot repair his older machines as the "advanced transistors and intergrated circuits" of the time can no longer be obtained.
(2) Many of the companies no longer exist or have moved into other electronic fields.
(3) Due to the high power demands of the circuits of the time they need huge and expensive battery packs that almost always need replacing.
(4) much heavier in weight than modern machines.
(5) Lack sensitivity compared with P.I.'s manufactured in the last ten years or so.
(6) Often lack performance even when up and running properly.
The Auto-Pulse on E-Bay must be about thirty years old. When new the manufacturer (and they do tend to quote the maximum depth you could ever obtain) claimed 6" on a 9mm cartridge case and 7" on an old penny.
Its far easier and could well be cheaper to buy a new or nearly new C-Scope or similar that will have better performance, be repairable and will have a better resale potential. |
