|
|
A home-made metal detector, which works by remote control, has netted a father and daughter a haul of coins worth £2,000.
Decima Watkins' father David from Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, made it from scrap metal and recycled materials.
They say it can cover the ground automatically, and save on the more back-breaking work, combing for coins.
Art student Decima, 20, said after initial trial and error the detector, which cost £100 to make, has paid off.

"They have collected more than £2,000 in cash on Porthkerry beach near their home, as well as finding 5,000 assorted silver and hammered coins, some they say date from the 14th Century..."
5,000? Hands up who finds this somewhat unbelievable given that no hoards were mentioned? |

Interesting that that beach is shingle. I can imagine how far those tiny smooth wheels are going to move that lump.
Have they moved April 1'st forward in Wales ? |

I was waiting on your field test Muskateer !
Ninja...you all recovered now ? I've been checking through the old magazines for a report of "Global" perhaps "Transglobal Expeditions" the U.S. group that organises detecting trips to other countries.
They had a trip to the West country years back and worked a hill that was really productive with both hammered and some Roman. I think they gave a general idea of where it was and might be worth checking into.
They moved onto visits to Russia a few years later. |

p****d of with my shoulder, worse than before the op, back to work now which isn't helping, going to see my surgeon in april and i feel like giving him a good smack.
I think the hill you are talking about has a monument or two on it so detecting will be a no no, but i could be wrong.
ps, i've lost your email address, pc crash, cant remember the @ onwards |

@tiscali.co.uk should be in my profile.
Sorry to hear that re the shoulder. Hope things pick up soon.
No detecting due to a monument yet they could detect it ? I don't know how the Americans do it. Swansea park was strictly no detecting until an American millionaire had a dream that his ancestor buried the family fortune there. Permission granted straight away. |
