I am looking to purchase my first metal detector for looking for roman coins and searching fields. I have narrowed my choice down to three detectors-
1. Viking Vk-10.
2. Bounty hunter fast tracker
3. Fieldmaster FD4400
Could you please possibly tell me if these detectors are ideal and if not suggest somthing else in my price range (below £200). I am looking for a switch on and go detector just to get started. |

| i think from you list the fieldmaster would probably be the best... i had a searchman 20 a few years back and it was a very good machine for the money |

Thanks for the advice but im lookig to spend £200 tops and I like the vk 30 as well. Is this machine just as good as the vk-40? I need the detector to be quite sensitive as I am planning on looking for a good coin-finder as finding coins is what fascinates me most. I live in scotland near a roman fort, so sweeping the around the nearby forests and fields is what im going to do. The bounty hunter seems real cheap. Is it any good?
More importantly, will I stand a good chance of finding anything? |

Good advice, I think I should get one and at least have some spare change in my pocket. I like the fact it works on the beach too so it should make going to the beach a bit more fun. Definetly buying one to see if I can find myself some coins. |

| sorry i type yorkshire. i bought the 4" coil as i had read a report that it was good for finding coins this proved to be true . i would say its a good cheap starter machine that will find coins no problem. its easy to use and if like me you enjoy it so much it will not be long before you decide to buy a bigger and better one with this in mind i am now looking to this forum for help on what to get next as i can,t get used to my new machine. if you are any where near york you are most welcome to have a go with either of my detectors cos as i know it not easy to buy without trying first hope this helps john. |
