Hi Everyone,
I am new to this site and to the whole idea of treasure hunting!
My pal and I are planning a great trip for 2010 to travel and hopefully find some stuff.
I am aware this is a UK based site, but we wanted to practice here and then head out when we knew what we were doing.
We think we will be heading towards Syria/Jordan, or somewhere in the middle east, but we have only just started our research.
I have a couple of questions that I'd be very happy to have answered if it isn't too much trouble.
1. Is there such a thing as a compact/collapsable detector? I ask because two white chaps in fedoras wandering around Syria with 3 ft metal detectors MIGHT be attractive for theives.
2. Has anyone been to that part of the world or any kind of long (6/12months abroad) trip.
Thanks in advance

The long range detectors are a scam.
I should tend to go for the Phillipines there's just to many mines and good ways of harming yourself in the Middle East though the people are great.
Doug in Manilla is the one to speak to re older finds and buried Japanese war loot. You should be able to locate him by doing a search on Finds forum or Treasure Net if not I should have his details somewhere.
Troy Shadows break down to just under 20". There's a German machine that fits in a large pocket. Flat rectangular control box and a rectangular coil that folds down round it. Can't think of the name at the moment but it will come to me.
Some of the Tesoros might fit the bill as well. |

Thanks very much for the info, there was something dodgy about those long range detectors.
They fell foul of the age old axiom 'if it looks too good to be true it probably is not'
However, much to your annoyanc eI'm sure we have now settled on Panama.

| You should look up George Williams, a British pioneer of the TR type detector. In the 1920's he spent a few years in Panama and his finds were out of this world including a gold orb and a two foot high gold alter. |

I will do, any idea of what that German machine is? I suppose it'd have to be waterproofable (if thats a word) as well.
Thanks for the info so far, sorry for the geographical jumps! |

Still can't think of the make. Seem to remember it was one of the three letter brands but its not KTS or OKM. I'll ask a few friends if they can remember.
Don't worry about location jumps. I'm supposed to be off to Chester next week then on to a site at York but its now Chester, Manchester airport then Bulgaria. |

No, its not one of the main German brands. Three letters I think. Never got to try it or I would have some notes.
Re your question on P.I.'s the other week I checked on those I've used and its 49 to date and I've only tried two of the several Minelabs. One weighed 7.5lbs !
Have you any idea what the ground mineralisation is like in Georgia ? |

Thanks for the info so far,
To summarise, I'm looking for a machine that is small, reasonably light and can be waterproofed/is waterproof, is there such a thing? |
