Hello - New to metal detecting and the forum. I am considering buying the following MD "Garrett Ace 250" Read many reviews and appears to be the best MD for the money and ideal for the novice/experienced.Has many features as you may find on the more expensive MD's so I have read. One issue maybe is the lack of volume control as mentioned in one review. Is this really a problem or does simply buying head phones with a volume control to be the answer.
Could anyone suggest another MD that i should be looking at or is the "Garrett Ace 250" ok to go for.Typical use will be fields/woods/pathways.Price up to £200
One more question, motion or non motion detectors,is this another factor that needs to be considered. |

Oh well - I will answer my own post
The second choice of metal dector was the Tesoro Compadre.I spoke to a couple of dealers who both suggested the ace 250 as this MD appears to be ideal for my needs.
Just a question of where to buy it now.... |

rsix - many thanks for the reply.Just one question, what symbol is displayed on the LCD when the ace 250 detects a £1 coin for example. The display is designed for the US currency.Perhaps i have missed something here. |

| it will show around silver on the 20c notch, 2 notches from the end of the display, you can put a £1 on the floor, swipe it, then eliminate everything else from being detected,so the only beep u get will be a pound coin, but rember other metals can trigger the pound coin beep so u will dig some false alarms, but on coins it good |

Went out yesterday for the first time with my 250.
10 mins in and my first coin.A 1966 old penny. Not much i grant you but its a start.Quite exciting when you dig and out pops a coin.
The 250 works a treat.Spent much time reading the manual, watched the DVD a couple of times and tested it in the garden,
I have set it to "All metal mode" as suggested to begin with. You quickly get use to the sounds. When i found the penny,it was a very positive sound and the pin pointing system is spot on. |
