hi. can sea concretion on copper coins turn the colour of the coin silver.
basically i broke a coin out of a concretion stone but it resembles a modern penny but its colour is silver.the coin is fractionally smaller in diametre but half the thickness of a modern penny,any ideas and comment please id be interested,

Resembles in size or pattern? A silver sixpence is the size you mention. See if the spit and silver paper method works and gives off the bad eggs smell of hydrogen sulphide gas then it is silver.

well you wouldnt believe it just found this on a site.magnetic 1pences The new penny weighs 3.56 grams and has a diameter of 20.32 mm. Initially issued in bronze, the material used to make the 1p coins changed to copper plated steel in 1992. Since then the only penny to appear in bronze has been the proof issue of 1999
t thought it was a six pence at first but couldnt find one with a portculias on and i dont think i will the coin i found was the steel with the copper plate removed lol

so is this a regular accurance on the beach?strip of copper one pence coins off steel i was just wondering if it was collectable lol

the concretion on coins is thier a way to dissolve the stuff without damaging the coins

i tried making one out of a mobile phone charger, i put 2 teaspoons full of salt in the water to aid conductiveaty and it worked four a few minutes and then burnt out at this rate ill be out of old phone charges before the coins are clean.lol. any body tried a solar panel in this way and how did it work.
